Dear OMS Families,
2024-2025 is off to a great start! I enjoyed catching up with students about their summer adventures. I can’t believe how so many have grown in so many ways!
Dan Anderson, our new Superintendent of Schools, will be on campus this week to meet our students. He looks forward to touring our campus and, more importantly, getting to know our scholars. We emailed his letter of introduction with last week’s news. A former principal in the Diocese many years ago, we welcome him back in this new role.
Our Parent Club Back-to-School Coffee in the Mission Garden was well attended. Thank you to Nicole Azar and Becky Kingman, our Parent Club President and Vice President, for setting that up. All of our parents are automatically part of the Parent Club. Please know that you are invited to Parent Club meetings. They occur on Thursday afternoons from 12:45-1:45 about every third Thursday; check out our calendar for specific dates.
On Wednesday, August 21, second through eighth grades will celebrate our first schoolwide Mass at 8:15 am at Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa. Our ASB officers will host this Mass as the lectors, gift bearers, and intercession prayer leaders. We hope you will join us. Parents are invited to be Eucharistic ministers. If you are already trained, please stop by the sacristy to see if a spot is available. If you are interested in being trained, please send me an email, or you can ask Fr. Martin directly.
Wednesday is also Back-to-School Night! The schedule will be slightly different this year to facilitate the requests of many middle school parents who want to check out all of their student's classrooms. This adults-only event begins at 4:30 pm. ASA will close at 4:00. The BIG change is that TK-5th grade presentations will take place before our social, and 6th-8th grade presentations will be held afterward. Please see the schedule. MCP has graciously offered their parking lot for the evening. We promised to clear the parking lot by 7:30 pm, so the gates will be closed at that time.
OMS teachers work diligently to communicate effectively with families. Please look for our elementary teachers’ and the middle school team’s weekly newsletters; these are emailed to the parent emails addresses listed on FACTS. Please make sure your FACTS information is always kept up to date for communication and emergency purposes. We cannot go in and change that information for you.
Our handbook was not previously updated to reflect our ASA protocols for this school year. ASA will be billed at the hourly rate of $8 charged on the quarter hour. If your student is present in ASA for any portion of a quarter hour, you will be charged $2. All children must be picked up no later than 5:30 P.M. Parents should ring the bell at the Mill Street door when picking up their children from ASA. Students will only be released to people who are listed on FACTS unless arrangements have been made with the front office in advance. Failure to arrive before 5:30 will incur fees at a rate of $1/minute. Please contact ASA as soon as possible if an issue arises. For those of you familiar with our text pick-up system, we apologize that our technology has not been working this week. We hope to have it back up and running on Monday.
Thank you for a wonderful week!
Blessings,
Tess Barket
